GOODREADS BLURB

After the grisly murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him as one of their own.

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn’t live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod’s family…

Beloved master storyteller Neil Gaiman returns with a luminous new novel for the audience that embraced his New York Times bestselling modern classic Coraline. Magical, terrifying, and filled with breathtaking adventures, The Graveyard Book is sure to enthrall readers of all ages.

MY REVIEW

Since I’d been hearing a lot about Neil Gaiman lately, I finally decided to give The Graveyard Book a shot. To quite an extent – did not disappoint!

The Graveyard Book is about Bod’s life in the graveyard where he’s grown up. The exploration of the supernatural entities (i.e. ghosts and ghouls etc) was quite fantastic and captivating. I liked Bod as a character, because at the author managed to capture his behavior and thought process so perfectly at every age. I could actually feel Bod growing up and learning about the ways of the world.

However, even though I loved the book, I did find the description slightly misleading. The Goodreads Blurb seemed to suggest that the book was about Bod and the ever mysterious man Jack. The book on the other hand, mostly just revolved around Bod’s life in the graveyard and how it shapes him. Another thing that phased me a little was that the chapters felt slightly disjointed – like individual short stories, not a complete novel.

That being said, I really did enjoy reading it and would definitely recommend it to a fellow reader. 4 out of 5 stars from me!

That’s all for today, hope you have a great day!
