Top 5 Wednesdays – Bookish Things You’re a Grinch About

Hi everyone and welcome to Top 5 Wednesdays! Top 5 Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted on a Goodreads group, the link to which I’ve included here in case any of you would like to join.

December’s finally here and Christmas is just around the corner so naturally today’s topic has a touch of Christmas to it i.e. Bookish Things You’re a Grinch About! Here we go –

I know it sounds dumb but I can’t think of any other way to describe it. A lot of readers are the same! I’m not the strictest in adhering to “Don’t Judge a Book by the cover and if there are real persons instead of caricatures on the book, I’m very unlikely to buy it. Example – Fangirl has people on the cover but they aren’t real people so it still goes on the Nice list.

I’m 19 and haven’t dated yet so I find it both hilarious and annoying that characters in books and movies can just look at each other and go “That one. I want that one.”

I haven’t seen this much among other readers but this is SO IMPORTANT for me. Many decide what they want to read on the basis of the cover but for me the Title of the book is FAR more important. If the title is catchy, I will give the book a once over.

Example here are some of the titles I LOVED

One example that strikes me right away is Matilda by Roald Dahl. If there are horrid parents in books I will DEFINITELY root for them to be chased away or called out! Another example – The Series of Unfortunate Events. Somehow rooting against the parent pr guardian makes me enjoy the book even more.

Not always really, but some love triangles are unnecessary and seem to be used JUST to advance the plot of the story. It takes away the beauty of the story and makes me want to read it less and less.

And that’s all for today! What are some of the bookish things you’re a Grinch about? What did you think about my list?

Hope you have a great day! Until next time
