Hi everyone and welcome to Top 5 Wednesdays! Top 5 Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted on a Goodreads group, the link to which I’ve included here in case any of you would like to join!
2017’s finally coming to an end and boy has it been an amazing year! When I saw this topic on the group, I immediately started thinking about how and where I was last year at this time and I’ve definitely changed. I’m pretty sure its for the better (although I guess I’ll find out soon). I started this blog towards the end of January 2017 so that’s most definitely the greatest improvement in my life.
Through blogging, I found a number or books this year that I would’ve never read before. In fact, blogging is what brought back the reading habit for me. Therefore, this is a perfect topic to sum up this year for me. I’ve decided to only select books that were published in 2017 and not ones that I loved but were published earlier. I will be doing a top 5 overall (i.e. books not published in 2017 but the ones I read this year soon). It was so hard to narrow it down but here are my top 5!
THE HATE U GIVE BY ANGIE THOMAS
ABSOLUTE. FAVORITE. Before I started reading it, I don’t know why I had a feeling it would be hyped and overrated but boy was I wrong. I really did enjoy reading it! Starr is one of my new favorite characters now.
TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN BY JOHN GREEN
A lot of people didn’t like Turtles all the Way Down but I actually enjoyed it. I think I over-analysed the plot a little too much and somehow that made the story really enjoyable for me. I liked Aza and Davis quite a lot and related to them at so many points in the story.
WONDER WOMAN: WARBRINGER BY LEIGH BARDUGO
I read Leigh Bardugo’s books for the first time this year and she’s one of my new favorite authors! Wonder Woman was one of my favorites because both the plot and the characters were plain awesome. I look forward to rest of the DC series and I just hope it turns out as good as the first one.
ONE OF US IS LYING BY KAREN MCMANUS
I’d been waiting to read this one for a long time and I was so happy when I finally did! I think One of Us is Lying make the list purely because of how much I waited for it. It turned out quite nice really.
MAGNUS CHASE AND THE SHIP OF THE DEAD BY RICK RIORDAN
This one comes as a surprise to me too. Although I do generally enjoy reading Rick Riordan books, they’ve never been “favorite” material. However, I really enjoyed reading Ship of the dead! Magnus Chase is every bit as awesome and goofy as Percy and I’ve really missed young Percy.
And that’s all for today! What were some of your favorite books this year? Do you have any from my list?
Hope you have a great day! Until next time
