Reasons I Loved The Good Place

Welcome! Everything is Fine.

In fact, everything is awesome because I have a new favorite series! The Good Place is a 2016 NBC comedy starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson as Eleanor and Michael. The series follows Eleanor as she enters her afterlife and wakes up in “The Good Place”. She is introduced to her eternal life of bliss by Michael, the architect of the Good Place.

Obviously there’s more to the story because how else would it be a comedy? Eleanor isn’t who everyone think she is and realizes she’s been sent to the Good Place by accident. What follows is a whole bunch of shenanigans and mishaps, as Eleanor figures out how to keep her secret among the bunch of quirky characters.

The Good Place is currently running its 4th and final season. The first three seasons are available to stream on Netflix, with about 13 episodes in each season

Here are the spoiler free reasons why I loved the Good Place –

ELEANOR SHELLSTROP IS RELATABLE AF!

ANYONE can relate to Eleanor. She’s sassy, super smart, sarcastic and yet can’t help being just slightly good to everyone. Every mood of mine has a corresponding Eleanor gif to go with it. Even though she is the only one who doesn’t seem to belong in the Good Place, you just can’t help but root for her. Kristen Bell is definitely the perfect choice for Eleanor.

IT EMBRACES ITS RIDICULOUSNESS

Flying Shrimp? Sure!
Giant Frogs? Even Better!
Mean Giraffes? Bring it On!

You’re in the Good Place – anything’s possible! This makes for some amazing comedic timing and excellent jokes.

LOVE OR HATE TAHANI?

A posh, British model and philanthropist who is well-known for her name dropping – Tahani al-Jamil is the very definition of Frenemy! While Tahani gets on everyone’s nerves, you can’t help but love her a little.

EVERYBODY LOVES CHIDI

Chidi Anagonye, a Professor of Ethics, who has a nervous breakdown every time he lies is the perfect sidekick to badass Eleanor. Their friendship is completely unlikely and absolutely hilarious. While Eleanor is the friend that barges into burning buildings, Chidi runs in after her, all the while stressing about all the trouble they’re in.

While there are many more, these are all that I can list without giving spoilers! If you happen to enjoy comedies, The Good Place might just be the show for you! I’ve already streamed 3 seasons and can’t wait for the 4th to come on Netflix – all the while dreading that its going to be over so soon!
